Deaf Indie Elephants

Xiu Xiu is a band very very weird / strange for me. Yesterday I read about their controversial new video for the song “Master of the Bump” and ok…. first let me talk about the song.

The first time I listen any song (an english one) I don’t pay attention to the lyrics, just the melody. Even though that song was “ok”.. the final note, a string guitar, gave me the chills. (minute 3:14 of the song ), a standout ovation for that ending.

Now the video, it came to my attention some Gus Van Sant and Dennis Cooper references, so I was having an idea about it and after watching the whole video… yes, it let me a little bit intrigued and disturbed.

Siendo sinceros la banda Xiu Xiu nunca me ha terminado de convencer, son MUY extraños para mi. Ayer lei que anda rodando un nuevo video “controversial” de ellos, y algunas personas hacían referencia que era “un cuento de Dennis Cooper dirigido por Gus Van Sant” (asi que ya se podía tener una idea por donde iba la cosa)

Antes de verlo busqué la canción en cuestión. Si bien no le prestaba atención a la letra sino a la melodía, no era nada del otro mundo hasta que al finalizar, en el minuto 3:14, hacen una nota de guitarra que corta bruscamente el estilo de la canción y te entra en toda la espina (muy distinto a piel de gallina jeje), aplaudí ese final.

Ahora, con respecto al video…. pues si, me dejó bien intrigado y perturbado.

Part II and final of my musical January ‘08:

- Xiu Xiu: I’m going to listen this album on February, but for now “I do what I want, when I want” and “Under Pressure” are favorites.

- Sébastien Tellier: This one is out on March, but I’m stick with it. Sometimes I feel Barry White is going to sing in one of these songs. The hand of Daft Punk is on this work.

- Now, the best thing ever released on January was The Magnetic Fields’ Distortion (at least in my opinion). This is my winter-season album, music to be listened alone, to get drunk, to be depressed but in some way happy. This album is beautiful in its own way. I’ll Dream Alone, Too Drunk to Dream and Old Fools are my new hymns. Please check this album now.

- Pero, lo mejor que pasó en Enero para mi, es el Distortion de The Magnetic Fields. Es mi disco para esta temporada, lo recomiendo 100%, es música para el invierno, para estar deprimido pero feliz. Es el disco de la belleza, pero sin llegar a cosas melómanas, es el disco para emborracharse, para estar solo pero sentirse con bien. I’l Dream Alone, Too Drunk to Dream y Old Fools son como unos mini himnos ahora en adelante. Escúchenlo.

The first time I listened this song (I think I was 11 years old) was on that Freddy Mercury Tribute, Bowie & Lennox’s performance totally blew my mind even though I didn’t know why “that weird woman” was dressed like that

Anyway, this post was conceived originally because of the awesome cover Xiu Xiu made of this song for the album Women As Lovers (have you listened it?.. go here)

La primera vez que escuché esta canción (creo que tenía 11 años) fue en aquel concierto tributo a Freddy Mercury… la presentación de Bowie con Annie Lennox me impacto totalmente (y lo sigue haciendo) a pesar que no sabía que diablos pasaba ahí ni por qué esa “extraña mujer” estaba vestida de esa manera.

En fin, este post fue pensado en principio después de escuchar el gran (y extraño) cover que Xiu Xiu realizó de esta canción para su reciente álbum Women As Lovers (por cierto, ya lo escucharon?… si NO, vayan acá)

So… the best way to start is with a new video from upcoming Xiu Xiu’s album “Women as Lovers”. The song “I Do What I Want, When I Want”

I don’t know if this is real, in fact it said it’s a leaked video (on youtube wtf!!!!)
Anyway here there is, at least you can listen the song. (and if you have more information about the veracity… please let me know)

Women As Lovers will be released on January 29.

Ahora mi duda es que no se si es real, será un fake?, no hay mucha información al respecto. De hecho parece ser que se filtró el video (pero ya está en youtube…. ???)
Al menos te queda el escuchar la canción
