Elefantes Sordos Independientes tienen el gusto de presentar el WTF del día.
Estoy seguro que los White Stripes querían hacer algo fuera de lo común y divertido para que cuando se jubilaran y llegasen a escuchar esto se rieran de los buenos momentos porque en realidad esta versión de Conquest en español es un chiste.. y creo (Y ESPERO) que esa fue la intención al hacerla.

Veamos:

1.- ¿quién le dijo a Jack que tenía que cantar con acento español? Me refiero exactamente a la parte “presa se ha “CONVERTIO” en cazador” Pavor me da al escucharlo.

2.- Cuando grita el público no deberían decir “Conquista” en vez de “Conquest”?

3.- Una vez más se corrobora que las canciones JAMAS deben ser traducidas literalmente, el resultado es total pena ajena.

4.- Sin embargo la pronunciación es mejor de lo que esperaba. (en realidad creo que cualquier cosa es mejor que el “Me Gusta El Mañana” de Nellie Mckay.

5.- Espero que la palabra “Conquista” sea cierto grito de guerra en sus conciertos (si llegasen a tocar nuevamente) y esté ahora en adelante como ringtone.

6.- A pesar de todo esto, como chiste me gustó, pero hablando en serio, me quedo con la versión Mariachi que vino en el single.

First Impressions:

- We’ve already talked about Icky Thump, Conquest, and You Don’t Know What Love is, so I’m not going to repeat the speech… though, I like them..
- Rag & Bone: Skip all the song and listen just this one… Rag and bone is the reason to buy this album.
- Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn: woow, Jack goes Beirut… I like it.
- St. Andrew (This Battle Is in the Air): WTF with this song, the experimental one, noisy and weird.
- I’m Slowly Turning into you: I read Gondry is behind a video for this song. (sort of)
- Little Cream Soda: I don’t know why this song reminds of me Smashing Pumpkins… all is full of noisy guitars and drums.
- The sound of this album is fresh and very Stripes, in fact it hasn’t changed so much compared to prior works, only two “experimental” songs.. but that’s it.

Those are my first thoughts. Overall this is a pleasant and fun work, right now I like it more than Get Behind Me Satan. It’s aggressive, fun, cool, it’s just Stripes.

Finalmente el álbum se filtró, pero es un radio rip, hoy en la mañana en una emisora de Chicago lo tocaron por completo y de ahí obviamente se iba a filtrar.
No puedo postear link alguno, pero ya saben que está por ahí.
Voy saliendo a mi casa… estaré actualizando sobre las primeras impresiones.

Primeras Impresiones:

- Ya se ha hablado de Icky Thump, Conquest, y You Don’t Know What Love is, asi que no repetiré el discurso… pero saben que me agradan.
- Rag & Bone: Descarta todas las demás, esta canción es la razón por la cual hay que tener el álbum, 3:50 minutos de grandiosidad.
- Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn: Jack goes Beirut… me agrada.
- St. Andrew (This Battle Is in the Air): La canción WTF, demasiado experimental para mi gusto.
- I’m Slowly Turning into you: Lei que GOndry estaría detrás del video de esta canción (o algo por el estilo), asi que seguramente sea el próximo single.
- Little Cream Soda: No se por qué esta canción me recuerda la época heavy de los Smashings…. Guitarras y batería sin parar.
- El sonido del disco es variado pero sin perder el trademark que ha caracterizado a la banda, en realidad no hay cambio alguno a pesar de una que otra “experimentación y novedad” que quiso incorporar en 2 canciones.

Eso es por el momento, en general Icky Thump es divertido, agresivo, cool, es Stripes, me gusta más que Get Behind Me Satan.

No se ha filtrado por completo, pero poco a poco han ido apareciendo canciones, y a la fecha ya hay 4 cortes del Icky Thump en la internetsss.
En esta oportunidad You Don’t Know What Love Is es la seleccionada, una canción muy fresca y Stripes con la característica “tonada” de guitarra contagiosa para tararear y la descarga de Meg, no ofrece algo nuevo que no estemos acostumbrados de ellos, pero cae muy bien.

Y si, tengo la 4ta… no, no es Slowly Turning Into You

Con respecto a la original mantiene la esencia de las trompetas y ese aire de Spaghetti Western o de soundtrack de Kill Bill o paso doble … pero agregándole su toque Stripes dum dum dum dum dum dum que realmente me agrada. Estoy con más expectativa de este nuevo trabajo.

Ya anunciaron salida de nuevo álbum para este año, denominado “Icky Thump” , y revelaron el tracklist del mismo.

De avance colocaron un “teaser” de la canción “I’m Slowly Turning Into You”, esperemos que salga practicamente que YA, en vista que estos chamos graban discos en dos semanas.
