Björk + Sigur Rós – Náttúra Concert :: My experience

The picture above was all I got from the Náttúra webcast and please let’s not talk about the audio, that sucked!
But, I must say that few blocks from my home Vemeko told me: “audio and video PERFECT!!!”
Not only I didn’t enjoy the concert, also there isn’t a rip, not even a decent video on youtube!, that’s not fair, I deserve a better life 
Well, while we are waiting for something, at bottom there’s a video from the best moment of the concert, Sigur Rós playing Gobbledigook with Björk on “drums & jumps” 
La imagen de arriba fue lo que pude ver por todo el tiempo que duró el webcast de Náttúra y ni hablar del audio entrecortado. Al momento que Björk iba a tocar me di por vencido y apagué. Aunque, a pocas cuadras de mi casa Vemeko me dijo que lo vio perfecto!!
Además, lo peor es que ha pasado un día y no hay ningún rip ni siquiera un video decente completo en youtube!!!…… merezco una mejor vida …. mientras, les dejo con lo que según fue el mejor momento del evento, Sigur Rós cantando Gobbledigook junto con Björk en los “tambores y brincos”
Me da un poco de rabia saber que uno de los conciertos que hay que ver este año A JURO sea el de Sigur Rós… a ver si se dan una vuelta por latinoamérica no? (y ahí se fue mi mensaje en la botella virtual jejejeje)

Sigur Rós – Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust (2008)

The stream of new Sigur Rós album is available since yesterday. Overall I really liked it, for me it’s better than Takka and even though it has the same style as prior works, it seems that Gobbledigook was the beginning of a new experiment, there’s some change in their proposal, a little refresh.
For me, this album has 3 stages:
1st Stage:: Upbeat – Pop: Includes the first 4 songs, this is the stage of “change”, upbeat songs and shorter as they used to do. I don’t mean these are mainstream or commercial songs because it’s totally false, but they are more accessible to the public without losing their Icelandic essence.
Favorites: Gobbledigook and Inní mér syngur vitleysingur (the last one is my big recommendation)
2nd Stage:: Intermediate – Inflection: Includes tracks 5, 6, 7. In this stage they make a stop and take up again their old style, that means… longer and epic songs.
- Festival: 9 epic minutes of glory and “yusó”
- Med sud í eyrum: this is the middle of the record, the inflection point preparing you to the last stage.
- Ára Bátur: the end of the intermediate, 8:57 minutes with a climax, this is the Goosebumps song, the perfect one to be played in concert, this is like the second coming of Jesus Christ. (Specially the last orchestral minutes)
Favorites: Festival and Ára Bátur.
3rd stage:: Quiet Ending. The last 4 songs are short songs but this time more quiet, less popish, there’s nothing more to tell about this stage except for “All Alright”, this is the first song in English of the band. But to be sincere I didn’t understand Jónsi’s english 
Favorite: Fljótavík
Verdict: 4/5. A solid album, I really wanted more risk from the band but at least I’m happy with those “popish” short songs. And let’s be honest, when it comes to Sigur Rós, is mandatory to listen epic songs, with a lot of “aaauuuuuu”, “yusó”, goosebumps and a little smile at the end.
El nuevo disco de Sigur Rós está disponible en stream para todos desde ayer, en términos generales me gusto, para mi es mejor que Takka y a pesar que mantienen su inigualable estilo, se ve que Gobbledigook fue sólo un pequeño experimento que les quedó muy bien. No obstante hay un cambio en su propuesta aunque sea mínima, existe un refresh.
Considero que este álbum tiene 3 etapas:
1ra Etapa:: Upbeat – Pop: Representado por las primeras 4 canciones, etapa de cambio caracterizado por canciones más cortas y más amenas a las que ellos acostumbran hacer, no quiero decir que sean mainstream o comerciales ni mucho menos “que se vendieron” porque es totalmente falso, pero si son más accesibles… eso si, sin perder su estilo propio.
Las que destacan: Gobbledigook y Inní mér syngur vitleysingur (esta última para mi una de mis favoritas)
2da Etapa:: Intermedio – Inflexión. Representado por los tracks 5, 6, 7. Esta etapa se caracteriza principalmente por hacer un stop y volver al Sigur Rós de siempre con canciones largas.
- Festival: es una especie de fin de la 1ra estación, 9 minutos épicos y de “yusó”
- Med sud í eyrum: viene siendo la mitad del disco, preparándote para el último tramo, una especie de punto de inflexión.
- Ára Bátur: el fin del intermedio, 8:57 minutos con un final de climax, la canción “piel de gallina”, la que en vivo debe ser igual a la segunda venida de Jesús. (especialmente los últimos minutos orquestrales)
Las que destacan: Festival y Ára Bátur.
3ra Etapa:: Tranquilidad – Desenlace. Las últimas 4 canciones mantienen el esquema de “canciones cortas” pero esta vez siendo más tranquilas, menos pop, no hay mucha novedad en esta etapa excepto por “All alright” que si no me dicen que es en inglés de verdad no la hubiese distinguido.
La que destaca: Fljótavík.
Veredicto final: 4/5. Disco sólido, hubiese preferido que se arriesgaran más, pero ese cambio a “canciones pop” para mi están muy bien y vamos estar claro cuando es Sigur Rós es “mandatorio” que nos canten con aullidos “aaauuuuaaaa”, “yusos” y terminen el disco con varias pieles de gallinas en el camino y una sonrisa al final.

A second song of new unpronounceable Sigur Ros album was played today at BBC Radio 1 on Colin Murray show.
Festival is the usual Sigur Ros song circa “ ( ) “, the “lyrics” is the known word “yusó” (as I want to called it) and obviously they use a lot of “aaauuuu uuuuu aaaa uuuuuu”.. yep, i like this song.
La segunda canción a conocerse del nuevo disco impronunciable de Sigur Ros fue tocado hoy en la Radio 1 de la BBC en el programa de Colin Murray!!!
Festival es la usual canción circa “ ( ) ” de Sigur Ros, como letra tiene la bendita palabra “yusó” (como la denominé) y obviamente muchos “aaaauu uuuu aaaaa uuuu”… no puedo negar decir que Sigur Ros no defrauda.

Review: Sigur Rós – Hvarf/Heim

English Version:
Listening Sigur Rós is always an experience, I don’t even imagine what would be to watch them in concert.
Anyway, I just listened the new double cd Hvarf/Heim, my opinion, it’s the same stuff that we have listened before, but c’mon you can’t have enough from Sigur Rós no matter if it sounds exactly the same in every new release.
IMHO, Hvarf/Heim is just an excuse to present “new” music from the band. In fact, it’s just a “bonus” of the REAL release, that is, Heima DVD.
Hvarf/Heim has one cd of “original music” (just 5 tracks) and the other one is an acoustic performance (6 tracks)…. Is this worthy?….. Hell yes!!, once again these tracks give me the chills, FYI: Í Gær is just epic!!! and the live version of Vaka, priceless (at least for me :_D )
So, Hvarf/Heim is a good preview while we wait the DVD, the only thing I didn’t like was that it wasn’t necessary TWO cd’s, come on: 11 tracks = double cd?? = Icelandic scam

Escuchar Sigur Rós es siempre una grata experiencia, no quiero ni pensar como sería ver la banda en concierto.
Con ello empiezo a relatar que acabo de terminar de escuchar el nuevo álbum doble de la banda titulado cd Hvarf/Heim, mi opinión, es la misma música a la que Sigur Rós nos tiene acostumbrados, no esperan nada nuevo… sin embargo creo que jamás podría cansarme de ellos no importa si la música es la misma en cada nueva producción.
A mi parecer, Hvarf/Heim es una excusa para tratar de presentar “nueva música”, es más, en realidad esto representa un aperitivo del verdadero lanzamiento de la banda que es el DVD Heima.
Por qué digo que es una excusa?, bueno, un Cd de Hvarf/Heim contiene “disque música nueva” (pero son sólo 5 canciones) y el segundo cd son versiones acústicas (pero son sólo 6 canciones)… por lo que en realidad tenemos efectivamente 2 EP.
Vale la pena? Pues SI!!!, una vez más se me erizaba la piel al escuchar el disco… por cierto, Í Gær es simplemente épica y la versión en vivo de Vaka inigualable (al menos para mi :_D )
Por lo tanto, Hvarf/Heim es un buen “preview” de lo que vendrá en el DVD, lo único que reclamo es que no era necesario presentar Hvarf/Heim como álbum doble, por favor son 11 tracks… fraude islándico

De esa manera empieza esta película. Para aquellos que no sepan de que se trata, permítanme contarles: Screaming Masterpiece es un documental del año 2005 que trata sobre la escena musical de Islandia. Entre presentaciones musicales y entrevistas por Björk, Sigur Rós, Múm y otros te permitirán viajar alrededor de “1000 años de música islandesa” para finalmente hacer una reverencia a este pequeño país.
Siempre que hay una referencia a la música de Islandia es porque generalmente se habla de Björk, y recientemente Sigur Rós. Pero, gracias a esta película pude notar que existen infinidades de bandas y diferentes estilos: desde el punk de los 80’s, rap electrónica, pop hasta llegar al rock & roll. Es fascinante saber la diversidad musical entre los grupos presentados en el filme que es tan alejado al pensamiento “medieval, vikingo y frío” que viene a la mente cuando se trata del país.
¿Por qué esta música es tan especial? Como se puede ver en el documental, cada banda está consciente que es difícil vender por lo menos más de 200 copias, también están limitados por su presupuesto y por la falta de equipos, por lo tanto intentan hacer lo mejor que pueden, es decir “hacer música para su propio disfrute” y ese sentimiento lo puedes sentir al escuchar sus canciones.
La banda sonora cuenta con tracks de las presentaciones mostradas en el film, y de verdad es especial el disco, así como el documental. Lo único “malo” es que tienden a extenderse mucho en esos performances, preferiría ver más opiniones y entrevistas de las bandas para saber más de sus historias, pero es de notar que el DVD cuenta con al menos 2 horas de contenido extra, por lo tanto este filme hay que tenerlo.

That’s the way this movie begins. For those of you who don’t know what this movie is about, let me tell you: Screaming Masterpiece is a 2005 documentary about Iceland music scene. Among interviews and performances by Björk, Sigur Rós, Múm and others you will explore around “1000 years of Icelandic Music” to finally take a bow about this country.
When it comes to icelandic music, I always say Björk or Sigur Rós. But, thanks to this movie I could realize there’re a lot of bands and different styles: from 80’s punk, rap, electronic, pop to rock & roll. It’s awesome to know the musical diversity among all the groups presented in this documentary that is very far from the “medieval, viking and cold” belief that comes with the country.
Why is this music so special? As you can see on the film, every band knows that is hard to sell at least more than 200 copies, also they don’t have the budget or the necessary equipment, so they try to do the best thing they can: “music for their own pleasure” and generally you can sense that feeling.
The OST has tracks from the performances presented in this film, and it’s fascinating. The only “bad thing” about this movie is that they take so much time showing the musical performances, I’d rather watch more opinions from the bands and history, but in the DVD Edition there’s at least 2 hours of bonus content, so this is surely a must have.
