Finally Rodrigo y Gabriela made their first live show in their country last April 9th on Mexico City. According to a spanish review from the 10:1 guys, it was GREAT!!! and by looking the youtube video I confirm it. In that video you can watch their performance of Wish You Were Here (and watch Rodrigo playing the guitar with a beer bottle…. literally)

As I said before in their Glastonbury 2007 performance, when an instrumental band plays that song it’s very exciting because “the singers are the public”. In the Mexico performance there’s such a good vibe, people actually singing and being a real part of the whole show.. good for all of them

Bien dice aquel refrán “Nadie es profeta en su tierra”, pero finalmente Rodrigo y Gabriela el 9 de abril dieron su primer concierto en su tierra natal en Ciudad de México. De acuerdo al review de los amigos de 10:1 el concierto fue grandioso y me lo confirmó un video que alguien subió en youtube donde interpretaban Wish You Were Here (ver a Rodrigo tocar la guitarra con una botella de cerveza…. literalmente).

Como lo dije hace casi un año cuando el Glastonbury 2007 debe ser muy emocionante “cantar” esa canción para una banda plenamente instrumental porque en ese momento reciben el feedback de la audiencia y eso lo pueden ver en el video, luego siguieron con el show interactuando con el público dejándolos formar parte activa del concierto, buena vibra, bravo por ellos y por los que asistieron

Rodrigo y Gabriela: They don’t sing, they just play guitars, so when they cover a song like Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” the singers are the public.

I just can’t imagine the excitement they have everytime they play this song in concert.
In my case, when I listen this version I have a non-stop 3-4 minutes of goose pimples.

I could extract the audio from the BBC Broadcast at Glastonbury 2007 of this song. Seriously, this performance was great, this week I’ll upload the complete performance from Rodrigo & Gabriela.

Rodrigo y Gabriela: Ellos no cantan, sólo tocan guitarra, por lo que cuando interpretan una canción como el Wish You Were Here de Pink Floyd pues quien canta es el público.

No puedo imaginarme la buena vibra que deben sentir ellos cada vez que interpretan esta canción en concierto.
En mi caso, cuando escucho esta versión tengo una interminable sensación de piel de gallina por 3-4 minutos.

Pude extraer el audio del Broadcast de la BBC de Glastonbury 2007 de la canción. De verdad, esta presentación fue excelente, en esta semana subiré el set completo de Rodrigo & Gabriela.

Es verdad que nadie es profeta en su tierra y la historia de Rodrigo y Gabriela es el vivo ejemplo de esta frase. Desde hace tiempo veía que hacían referencia a este dúo, pero siempre pensaba que era algo cercano a “Enrique y Ana”… muy equivocado estaba.

Este dúo empezó en una banda de metal en México y luego de no ver un futuro como músicos en su tierra deciden irse a probar suerte en Irlanda. Tocaron en las calles y en algunos pubs donde fueron acogidos gratamente hasta que finalmente coinciden con John Leckie (productor de Radiohead, Muse, My Morning Jacket, entre otros) y nace este su tercer disco, titulado “Rodrigo y Gabriela”.
Desde ese momento desplazaron a los Arctic Monkeys en ventas al posicionarse número uno en las listas y de ahí ha empezado un mayor reconocimiento internacional para estos chicos.

¿Qué tienen de especial ellos? Imagínense una mezcla de flamenco, metal, folk hispanoamericano pero enmarcados en las virtuosas guitarras acústicas de este dúo. Sus influencias van desde Paco de Lucía, pasando por Led Zeppelin y Metallica (de hecho en el disco hay covers de Stairway To Heaven y Orion del que salen muy bien parados)

Este disco se recomienda en grande a todos los que disfruten de excelente música, “Rodrigo y Gabriela” van más allá de si eres metalero, popero, clásico, porque engloba lo universal que es la música y te hacen dar gracias porque hoy día existan bandas que sigan interesadas en regalar gratas melodías al oído y porque no.. al alma.

Lástima que es ahora que se de ellos, pero no cabe duda que es de lo mejor que he escuchado en un buen tiempo. (best of 2006, sin discusion alguna).

What a great band, it’s tue that nobody is a prophet in his own land and the story of Rodrigo y Gabriela is an excellent example.

This duo started in a trash metal band in México but they decided to moved to Ireland because of the limited music scene in their country. They played in the streets and pubs of Dublin with great acceptance of the public until one day they met John Leckie (producer of Radiohead, Muse, My Morning Jacket) and the rest is history.

This album titled “Rodrigo y Gabriela” is their third one, but with this cd they beat Arctic Monkeys on the charts and from this moment their international success started.

What’s so special about them? Imagine a musical fusion: flamenco, rock and Hispanic folk. All of these are structured on two acoustic guitars. Their influences goes through Paco de Lucia, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd (they also made a cover of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven and Metallica’s Orion), these guys rock!!!!!!

I recommend this album and this group for everyone who loves and enjoys MUSIC. Rodrigo y Gabriela goes beyond musical genres, it doesn’t matter if you’re metal, pop, rock, whatever… you should enjoy this universal kind of music.
