Joanna Newsom & The Ys Street Band es el nuevo EP de Joanna, el cual me enganchó al instante al nivel de darle una nueva oportunidad al álbum Ys y finalmente “entenderlo”.
3 canciones, siendo nueva “Colleen” con cierta influencias gitanas o árabes. Las siguientes son nuevas versiones de “Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie” que no difiere mucho de la original con excepción de la voces que la acompañan y “Cosmia“, esta version supera en tiempo a la original del álbum Ys.
En fin, creo que este Ep fue realizado para dar a conocer la música de Joanna y conseguir nuevos fans, un disco relativamente corto, con canciones excelentes… sin duda uno de los mejores EP’s del año a pesar que no presenta algo nuevo en realidad.
Y si, todas las palabras de las canciones empiezan con “C”.

Joanna Newsom & The Ys Street Band is the new EP of Joanna, I loved this record at first “sight” that I went to listen again Ys album to finally understand it.
This EP has 3 songs; one of them is a new one called “Colleen”, an excellent track with some Arabic or maybe gipsy influences.
The other 2 songs are new versions of “Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie” and “Cosmia”, there is not a big difference compared to the originals but I think this EP was conceived to be more accessible and attract new listeners (let’s be honest, Ys is an excellent album but not everybody will listen a 16 minutes song)
And yep, all the words of the titles of the songs start with “C”

Recientemente he tenido una fiebre con Joanna Newsom y revisando encontré que Final Fantasy hizo un cover de su canción “Peach Plum Pear” del álbum “The Milk-Eyed Mender”.. si bien no supera la original, es interesante esuchar y ver la canción interpretada con un violín en vez del arpa.

These days I have had a crush on Joanna Newsom, while I was searching videos I found that Final Fantasy covered her song Peach Plum Pear from “The Milk-Eyed Mender” album…. it’s not better than the original but it’s interesting to hear and watch the violin version of the song.

24 años, arpista de Nevada City, estilo folk, pana de Devendra Banhart. 14 de noviembre lanzamiento de su segundo larga duración, a la fecha la crítica ha dicho:
- Metacritic: 91 de 100. Número 3 en lo mejor de 2006 por ahora.
- Pitchfork: 9.4 de 10, mejor nueva música de la semana.
Ahora bien imagínate a Björk pero más chama y un pelo más chillona en una nota de Vespertine, pero esta vez con sólo 5 canciones, 55 minutos y más “new age, elfístico, tolkien o como lo quieran llamar”, eso es Ys.
No tengo mucho que decir del disco porque es elegantemente bizarro y “lendo” (de pana, traté que no sonara muy pussy el calificativo).
¿Es lo más extraño que he escuchado este año?, Definitivamente, siguiendo a Final Fantasy.
¿Lo recomiendo? Pues, no pongo las manos en el fuego pero si te puedes fumar canciones de mínimo 7 minutos a máximo 17, dale play, sino pues gracias por la visita.
Veredicto:
- Bonito, sin lugar a duda.
- Ambicioso, totalmente.
- Extraño, a la primera escucha.
- Extraño, a la tercera (si pudiste terminar la primera)

Let’s see. Imagine Björk but younger, cheesy voice in a Vespertine mood, but this time with only 5 songs, 55 minutes and more “new age, tolkinian or whatever you want to call it”, and you get Ys.
I don’t have a lot to say about this CD because is elegantly weird and beautiful.
Is it the weirdest thing that I have heard this year? Definitely, following Final Fantasy.
Do I recommend it? Errr no. I only say yes if you can stand songs of 7 to 17 minutes, if you can’t: thanks for the visit 
Verdict:
- Beautiful, without a doubt.
- Ambitious, totally.
- Weird, at first listening.
- F**ing Weird, at the third listening (if you can finish he first)
