[mp3 - hyping] Department of Eagles @ La Blogotheque

New Grizzly Bear Department of Eagles album of the year (so far) is around the corner and we are just enchanted by its greatness. In fact, just like Arcade Fire last year, anything related to Grizzly Bear/Department of Eagles guys from now it’ll become an instant favorite in this blog.
So, while we wait for the “official release” of In Ear Park is good to remember their performance @ La Blogotheque! MP3s at bottom.
El nuevo disco del año de Grizzly Bear Department of Eagles está a la vuelta de la esquina y acá estamos encantados por su grandeza. De hecho, al igual que Arcade Fire el año pasado, de ahora en adelante cualquier cosa relacionada con los chicos de Grizzly Bear/Department of Eagles será un favorito instantáneo en este blog.

Last saturday Devendra Banhart made a cover of famous Mungo Jerry song “In The Summertime”, I was so lucky to record it from the Outside Lands Music Festival webcast. MP3 at bottom.

1 One of my Friday’s rituals is to wake up listening a song that makes me happy, nothing is better than start this day with good vibe (and also say TGIF). Today’s choice was “In The New Year” by The Walkmen because it became a favorite of the year instantly to me.
I wanted to post a live video of this song but I only found that “in the basement” version (don’t know what’s that “basement”). Even though the audio/video quality isn’t the best, the feeling is the same 
(at bottom the song, studio version)
Uno de mis rituales los viernes es escuchar en el carro una canción que me haga feliz, que me alegre el día porque nada mejor que un baño de buena vibra para entrarle al fin de semana. Seleccioné “In The New Year” del nuevo disco de The Walkmen que con esa mezcla de griticos precisos y un “turu tururururuuu”se convirtió en favorita del año automáticamente para mi a la primera escucha.
Quería ver en youtube alguna versión en vivo pero encontré esa en un “basement” no se cual ni de quien 
pero igual se los dejo asi como está, porque a pesar que cuenta con baja calidad de audio y video mantiene su feeling (para aquellos que no la han escuchado al final está el mp3 de la versión en estudio)

New Detektivbyrån :: Wermland
3 Finally album debut of Detektivbyrån will be released on September 3rd. Title: Wermland. 14 tracks
I’ve been following the “making of” of this release @ youtube, and I’ve been really excited about it. If you haven’t heard about this band check the new 2 tracks they have posted on their website and myspace. For me the sound of this band is the closest to Yann Tiersen (circa Amelie)…. Worth it!
Finalmente el álbum debut de Detektivbyrån será lanzado el 3 de Septiembre. Título: Wermland, contiene 14 tracks.
He estado siguiendo el “Making of” de este lanzamiento en youtube y realmente estoy emocionado por el trabajo. Si no lo has escuchado todavía te recomiendo chequees sus 2 nuevas canciones que están en su website y su myspace. Para mi el sonido de esta banda es el más cercano al de Yann Tiersen (circa Amelie)… vale la pena.

DIE | All Points West 2008 Recap – Day 1 (and only)

Sorry I was on vacations, now I’m back in my country… so, this is my little review of Day 1 of All Points West festival.
10:00 AM: Arrived at New York City
10:30 AM: Where’s Pier 11?
11:30 AM: Lost!!… really, where’s Pier 11?
12:00 PM: Found Pier 11… now on Ferry and taking pics of Liberty Statue.
01:00 PM: Buying merchandise, cds, tshirts and food.
02:30 PM: The Go! Team | Nice kids, nice show, very funny, easy to like them.
03:15 PM: Forro In The Dark | This band was the surprise of the day, really liked that brazilian-cumbia combination, my new band.
05:15 PM: Grizzly Bear | THE BEST THING ON EARTH!!! My favorite show of the day, played new songs, the crowd were so nice.. these guys kick ass!!!
06:30 PM: Underworld | I don’t like this kind of music but I must say their show is amazing with those arcade visuals and puki puki puki puki
08:30 PM: Radiohead | This show was better than Lollapalooza, played “Just” and “Street Sprit” Excellent!
11:00 PM: Take Ferry one more time!!!
Pretty nice festival (just Day 1), the only thing I suggest for next year is more Ferrys to access, but overall the rest of things were nice.
10:00 AM: Llegué a New York (gracias a los autobuses chinos en Philadelphia jeje)
10:30 AM: ¿Dónde queda Pier 11?
11:30 AM: Totalmente perdido!!… de verdad, ¿dónde queda Pier 11?
12:00 PM: Encontré Pier 11… ahora al Ferry y tomar fotos a la Estatua de la Libertad (soy turista, no lo puedo evitar)
01:00 PM: Comprar merchandise, cds, franelas y encargo.
02:30 PM: The Go! Team | Chicos buena vibra, buen show, muy divertidos, es muy simple que te caigan bien.
03:15 PM: Forro In The Dark | Esta banda fue para mi la sorpresa del día, realmente me agradó esa combinación brasilera con cumbia, mi nueva banda sin duda.
05:15 PM: Grizzly Bear | LO MEJOR EN LA TIERRA!!, el mejor show del día, salí demasiado emocionado, tocaron nuevas canciones (ya quiero que terminen el disco!), nuevos arreglos en otras, la gente super conectada, practicamente por ellos es que asistí al festival!!!
06:30 PM: Underworld | En realidad no me gusta este tipo de música como para escucharla en un concierto, de todas formas el espectáculo fue genial, las visuales con juegos de arcade excelentes.
08:30 PM: Radiohead | Este show fue mejor que el de Lollapalooza, tocaron “Just” y “Street Sprit” asi que no tengo queja alguna
11:00 PM: Ya en la cola para tomar el Ferry de regreso!!
Me gustó el festival (sólo Día 1), lo único que sugiero es que tengan más Ferrys de verdad cansa la espera, pero en general para ser el primer evento les salió bien.

11:00 AM: Sleeping in a Hammock in Grant Park.
1:00 PM: What Make Milwaukee Famous | Nice guys, going to check their record now, good performance.
2:15 PM: Brazilian Girls | Pussy, pussy, pussy, marihuanaaaa…. early magical moment of the day.
3:30 PM: Eating a Chicken-on-a-stick while I was listening Black Kids. (black kids.. normal show)
5:00 PM: Saul Williams | This guy rules!!!!…They gave us a feather to use it on the head and the second best moment of the day was:
Saul singing: When I say “Niggy” you say “Nothing”…. NIGGY!!!
Everybody: NOTHING!!!!
Saul: Shut up!!
6:30 PM: Girl Talk | Can say it in words… just in video, awesome!!!!. The third best moment of the day, the ending with Girl Talk in a inflatable boat
8:15 PM: Nine Inch Nails | Kudos to Mr. Reznor!!!! the perfect ending of the festival, unforgettable… fourth best moment of the day, the whole “Only” show.
No aftershows… and this is the end of 3 days I’ll never forget!!!
9:00 AM: Dificilmente se quien soy.
11:00 AM: Durmiendo en una hamaca en Grant Park.
1:00 PM: What Make Milwaukee Famous | Performance chévere, revisaré el disco de estos muchachos ahora en adelante.
2:15 PM: Brazilian Girls | Pussy, pussy, pussy, marihuanaaaa…. momento mágico tempranero del día.
3:30 PM: Comiendo unos “pinchos de pollo” mientras escuchaba Black Kids (con un show normalito)
5:00 PM: Saul Williams | Este tipo rockea duro!!!… Nos dieron plumas para colocarlas en la cabeza durante el show y el segundo mejor momento del día fue:
Saul cantando: Cuando diga “Niggy”, uds. dicen “Nothing”…. NIGGY!!!
Todos: NOTHING!!!!
Saul: Cállense!!
6:30 PM: Girl Talk | No lo puedo decir en palabras sino en video, fue salvajemente divertido. El tercer momento del día, el final del show con Girl Talk en un bote inflable
8:15 PM: Nine Inch Nails | Kudos a Reznor!!!! el perfecto cierre del festival, inolvidable, el cuarto momento del día corresponde a los efectos de la canción “Only”
No aftershows… y ese es el fin de 3 grandes días que no olvidaré!!!

12:30 PM: Does It Offend You, Yeah? | These guys rock!, people connected, full of energy… and when it comes to “we are rockstars”, everybody………. YEAH!!!! dun dun dun dun.
1:30 PM: Dr Dog | They have good songs but they sound better on record than live… sorry 
3:30 PM: Devotchka | The nicest guys ever… 1 hour is not enough for a Devotchka concert!!
4:30 PM: Explosions In The Sky | The best performance to be seen on the ground watching the sky
Then I stayed in the Budlight stage waiting for BSS and Wilco while I was listening the Okkervil River performance.
6:30 PM: Broken Social Scene | I’m a diehard fan of these guys… but the performance was ok, nothing big!! (BUT their aftershow was the best of the night, probably after Wilco)
8:30 PM: Wilco | Wooooo, I really didn’t care not watching RATM, the performance of Wilco was totally worthy!!.. so bad they didn’t make an encore… but that’s ok 
12:00 AM: Aftershow w/ Broken Social Scene @ The Metro | The best show of the night, they invited the guys of Explosions in the Sky, rabbit-man, the people really connected, 2:30 hours, they totally kicked ass!!!
4:00 AM: Sleep.
9:00 AM: Dificilmente abrí los ojos.
12:30 PM: Does It Offend You, Yeah? | Estos chicos rockean!, el público con buena vibra, llenos de energía y cuando llegaba la canción “we are rockstars” todos esperábamos por el………. YEAH!!!! dun dun dun dun.
1:30 PM: Dr Dog | Tienen buenas canciones pero suenan mejor en disco que en vivo…. lo siento
3:30 PM: Devotchka | Las mejores personas, creo que 1 hora es muy poco porque te quedas con ganas de escucharlos más.
4:30 PM: Explosions In The Sky | El mejor performance para ser visto acostado en la grama viendo el cielo
Me quedé en el escenario Budlight esperando BSS y Wilco mientras escuchaba Okkervil River que tocaban en el Playstation 3.
6:30 PM: Broken Social Scene | Soy un fan a muerte de la banda, pero su presentación estuvo normal, no me mataron… (en cambio su aftershow me hizo comer mis palabras)
8:30 PM: Wilco | Wooooo, realmente poco me importó no haber visto a RATM, el concierto de Wilco valió la pena, lástima que no hicieron encore pero realmente con 2 horas de buena energía no importaba
12:00 AM: Aftershow w/ Broken Social Scene @ The Metro | El mejor show de la noche, invitaron a la gente de Explosion In The Sky, tenían conejos disfrazados, varios amigos.. 2:30 horas, la gente totalmente a gusto… inolvidable de verdad!!!
4:00 AM: Dormir

11:45 AM: At the entrance of Grant Park with Stars Wars Theme sounding. Triumphant!!!
12:15 AM: Holy F*ck | Nice show, Lovely Allen played live is….. lovely
1:15 – 2:15 PM: Checking the zone and watch the best job that someone could have on Lollapalooza. Check pic 3.
2:15 PM: Yeasayer | I felt like the luckiest person in the world listening 2080
3:15 PM: The Kills | Cool show, the weather f**k**g HOT!… I fell in love with Alison.
4:15 PM: Gogol Bordello | Nice surprise, as always they have one of the funniest and happiest live performance.. oopa oopa!! (did I say that I was so groupie that I took I picture with Eugene that morning? hehehe… check pic 2)
5:15 PM: Cat Power | What a woman!!!!!… really don’t know what to say but I was enchanted by her.
Then I started to run to have a nice “seat” to see Radiohead, I arrived in the last songs of Bloc Party (I DON’T like Bloc Party… sorry)
8:00 PM: Radiohead | Magical moment of the night… Fake Plastic Trees + fireworks… chills!!!! (excelent show but the public weren’t connected)
12:00 AM: Aftershow w/ Gogol Bordello @ The Metro: I think this was the best show after Radiohead… these guys rock!!
4:00 AM: Sleep
11:45 AM: En la entrada del Grant Park con el tema de Stars Wars de fondo. Triunfante!!!
12:15 AM: Holy F*ck | Buen show, Lovely Allen tocado en vivo es.. lovely
1:15 – 2:15 PM: Chequeando la zona y viendo el mejor trabajo que alguien puede tener en el Lolla. ver pic 3.
2:15 PM: Yeasayer | Me sentí la persona más feliz del mundo cuando tocaron 2080.
3:15 PM: The Kills | Hacía demasiado calor y mucho sol, la banda dio todo… me enamoré de Alison.
4:15 PM: Gogol Bordello | Una gran sorpresa, como siempre ellos tienen uno de los shows más divertidos y buena vibra.. oopa oopa!! (ya dije que me pasé de groupie y me tomé foto con Eugene? jeje.. ver pic 2)
5:15 PM: Cat Power | QUE MUJER!!!!!! QUE MUJER!!!… en realidad no se que decir sino que estaba encantado por ella.
Luego empecé a correr para buscar un buen puesto para Radiohead, llegué en las últimas canciones de Bloc Party (por cierto NO me gusta Bloc Party, lo siento)
8:00 PM: Radiohead | Momento mágico de la noche… Fake Plastic Trees + fuegos artificiales… piel de gallina!! (excelente show aunque el público no estuvo tan conectado)
12:00 AM: Aftershow w/ Gogol Bordello @ The Metro: Creo que este fue el mejor show luego de Radiohead… esta banda rockea duro!!.
4:00 AM: Dormir
