Maybe because I’m not a huge Tom Waits fan and also because I have a big crush on Scarlett… but I like her record, yep I like it, I respect if all of you think this is an awful work, or that her voice is horrible… I don’t care. I just like the project, I liked her wasted voice/attitude, and the presence of a TVOTR guy. Besides, the songs are from Tom Waits, that’s quality stuff.
Even though I tried to defend her I’m just going to share the MP3s of her recent performance @ AOL Sessions.
Tal vez porque no soy muy conocedor del trabajo de Tom Waits y además tengo un gran crush con Scarlett, pero su disco me gusta… si, me gusta, respeto y entiendo que a la mayoría pueda parecerle espantoso, que su voz es fatal y que ha destrozado las canciones originales… pero lo siento, me agradó el proyecto, me gustó su voz/actitud desgastada, me gustó el que se palpe la presencia de un TV On The Radio, y bueno son canciones de Tom Waits (hay calidad en ellos) y aunque este post intenta fallidamente defenderla, sólo me queda ofrecerles los MP3s de su presentación para el AOL Sessions.

It’s not very often that you feel glad you are not dating a stunningly beautiful woman like Scarlett Johansson, but this is definitely one of them. Her music is really, really bad. If she were my girlfriend, I would have to say things like, “It’s really good, honey. No, I do like it. I was just listening to it and I’ll listen to it again later, honest.” I’m not sure if Ms. Johansson thought that since Zooey Deschanel made a record than she could do it, but it didn’t work out. Scarlett Johansson is a very talented actress, why can’t that be enough? Leave the singing to the singers.

What I’m wondering is why these tunes are coming straight from AOL Sessions–what up with that? And then they get posted to the Hype Machine? WHY?! NOT COOL. Leads me to suspect you’re just an AOL hack. I much prefer the Hype Machine for independent bloggers, and not folks who pose as independents who are actually on some big corporation’s payroll.
