It’s official, please don’t ask me what I think about BSS Presents: Brendan Canning – Something For All Of Us…. because, when it comes to BSS I’m not objective.

[Viva el Soul] Al Green & Otis Redding (2008)

It was a “Night of Soul” the one that I had 2 weeks ago when I played new Al Green’s album.
“Lay It Down” is an effective move from Al to getting known to new young audiences with an album that is pure 60s-70s Soul but that it’s more alive than never nowadays thanks to the collaboration of new generation of soul and R&B such as John Legend, Corinne Bailey Rae and Anthony Hamilton.
This is a must-listen no matter if you’re a fan or not of Reverend Green because at the end of the day you’ll always know what to expect from him, pure magic, and falsettos
After listening Al Green’s I took right away the new remastered edition of one of the greatest albums of all times, I’m talking about Otis Blue of Otis Redding released last month. This new edition has 40 tracks with mono & stereo versions of the original songs and also includes live songs, b-sides and rarities. My friends this record is a MUST-HAVE, it has to be on your collection.
Don’t wait more and go to listen them. Al & Otis, the perfect combination. (MP3s at bottom)
Fue una “noche de soul” que me di hace unas semanas al saber del nuevo disco de Al Green llamado Lay It Down el cual es una acertiva jugada en acercarse al público actual con una producción que si bien se escucha y se siente de los 70s sigue muy viva en esta época, más aun contando con la participación de la nueva generación del R&B y Soul como John Legend, Corinne Bailey Rae y Anthony Hamilton.
Un must-listen no importa si seas o no fan del Reverendo Green porque en realidad ya sabes lo que te encontrarás en el álbum y te permitirá continuar imitando (fallidamente) los falsettos de Al con nuevas canciones
Para seguir manteniendo el listón alto, una vez que terminé el de Al Green fui directo a devorar la versión remasterizada de uno de los discos más grandes de todos los tiempos, me refiero al Otis Blue de Otis Redding lanzado el mes pasado. Esta edición doble con 40 tracks cuenta con versiones mono y stereo del disco original además de incluir versiones en vivo y rarezas de Otis Redding. Este disco señores es GRAAANDE!!!!, un MUST-HAVE de todos los tiempos.
No esperen un segundo más y vayan a escucharlos, Al y Otis una perfecta combinación.

[Blast From The Past] The Polyphonic Spree @ MTV VMAs
0 The Polyphonic Spree @ MTV VMA was the first time I saw the band without knowing they were TPS!!!…. In that time circa 2003-2004 I was laughing and ashamed with “those weird religious guys” (shame on me)…. but you know, it’s funny how people grow and now I’m a big fan of them, since that moment I haven’t seen that performance again until last week when I finally found it and uploaded it at youtube, great!!, marvelous!!!
Esa presentación de la banda fue la primera vez que los veía sin saber que eran los Polyphonic… en esa época circa 2003-2004 yo me reía (burlaba) y sentía pena por esos “tipos religiosos en trajes”… pero como todo cambia y la gente pase de pensamiento adolescente a adulto (gracias a Dios!!!) ahora soy un fan de la banda, y desde ese momento en los MTV no había vuelto a ver el video hasta la semana pasada que por fin lo encontré y subí a youtube.

1 Afrael once told me “listen Bon Iver you’ll like it”. The first time I didn’t pay attention, but one night I was working late, I need to concentrate so I played this record. Man, I was shocked!! what a wonderful record, intimate, sincere. The best part is that I didn’t read about this man until that moment, so no hype effect on this.
No doubt the reissue of this record is on my top this 2008, and Wolves Act I & II is one of those songs that define my year. Last week he was invited to Jools Holland, you can watch the videos at youtube and I think this is the perfect moment to give him some coverage! (mp3 at bottom)

Afrael una vez me dijo “escucha Bon Iver, te gustará”. La primera vez no le presté mucha atención, pero una noche me tocó trabajar hasta tarde, necesitaba concentración y de fondo coloqué este álbum… Woow, quedé impresionado, realmente un excelente trabajo, visceral, íntimo, una joya, y lo mejor es que no lo conocía sino hasta ese momento por lo que no hubo efecto hype.
En fin, como fue lanzado de nuevo este 2008, que más decir que está en mi top, siendo Wolves Act I & II una de esas canciones que definen mi año. Por suerte, la semana pasada lo invitaron al programa de Jools Hollands y ya han estado subiendo videos en youtube… que mejor momento que este para darle cobertura
