Leak & Review: The White Stripes – Icky Thump

Finally the full album is out there, but is a radio rip version.
I CAN’T post a link, but for now you know is in the internetss.
I’m going home… I’ll be updating about first impression.

First Impressions:
- We’ve already talked about Icky Thump, Conquest, and You Don’t Know What Love is, so I’m not going to repeat the speech… though, I like them..
- Rag & Bone: Skip all the song and listen just this one… Rag and bone is the reason to buy this album.
- Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn: woow, Jack goes Beirut… I like it.
- St. Andrew (This Battle Is in the Air): WTF with this song, the experimental one, noisy and weird.
- I’m Slowly Turning into you: I read Gondry is behind a video for this song. (sort of)
- Little Cream Soda: I don’t know why this song reminds of me Smashing Pumpkins… all is full of noisy guitars and drums.
- The sound of this album is fresh and very Stripes, in fact it hasn’t changed so much compared to prior works, only two “experimental” songs.. but that’s it.
Those are my first thoughts. Overall this is a pleasant and fun work, right now I like it more than Get Behind Me Satan. It’s aggressive, fun, cool, it’s just Stripes.

Finalmente el álbum se filtró, pero es un radio rip, hoy en la mañana en una emisora de Chicago lo tocaron por completo y de ahí obviamente se iba a filtrar.
No puedo postear link alguno, pero ya saben que está por ahí.
Voy saliendo a mi casa… estaré actualizando sobre las primeras impresiones.

Primeras Impresiones:
- Ya se ha hablado de Icky Thump, Conquest, y You Don’t Know What Love is, asi que no repetiré el discurso… pero saben que me agradan.
- Rag & Bone: Descarta todas las demás, esta canción es la razón por la cual hay que tener el álbum, 3:50 minutos de grandiosidad.
- Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn: Jack goes Beirut… me agrada.
- St. Andrew (This Battle Is in the Air): La canción WTF, demasiado experimental para mi gusto.
- I’m Slowly Turning into you: Lei que GOndry estaría detrás del video de esta canción (o algo por el estilo), asi que seguramente sea el próximo single.
- Little Cream Soda: No se por qué esta canción me recuerda la época heavy de los Smashings…. Guitarras y batería sin parar.
- El sonido del disco es variado pero sin perder el trademark que ha caracterizado a la banda, en realidad no hay cambio alguno a pesar de una que otra “experimentación y novedad” que quiso incorporar en 2 canciones.
Eso es por el momento, en general Icky Thump es divertido, agresivo, cool, es Stripes, me gusta más que Get Behind Me Satan.

Se dice Bisonte, No Búfalo, es el nombre correspondiente al más reciente trabajo en solitario del guitarrista de The Mars Volta. Ayer lo escuché en su totalidad y bueno, merecía post , además que salió a la venta.
En los 10 tracks del álbum, Omar con su guitarra hacen un viaje por la psicodelia y la creación de atmósferas muy influenciadas por Pink Floyd pero incorporando de vez en cuando ritmos latinos, haciendo muy exótico este trabajo.
A su vez, tres de las composiciones tienen voces gracias a la colaboración del cantante de The Mars Volta, sin embargo algunos tracks tienden a cansar un poco debido a la variedad de sonidos entremezclados.
De acuerdo a la wikipedia, Se dice Bisonte, No Búfalo es uno de los 4 trabajos que realizó Omar mientras se encontraba en Alemania simultáneamente con la grabación de Amputechture de The Mars volta y de la banda sonora de la película mexicana El Búfalo de la Noche, con guión de Guillermo Arriaga, del cual fue inspiración para el nombre de este trabajo.
En fin, sin más preámbulos, Se dice Bisonte, No Búfalo es un álbum experimental bien interesante para todo aquel que quiera darse una vuelta por la psicodelia, enriquecida por los riff de una guitarra.

Se dice Bisonte, No Búfalo, is the title of the new album of The Mars Volta’s guitarist Omar Rodríguez López. Yesterday I listened to it and is necessary to post about the experience.
In 10 tracks Omar leads a psychedelic journey, creating musical atmospheres, obviously under the influence of Pink Floyd but incorporating Latin rhythms, which made this album very exotic.
Overall the album is pretty great but there’re some tracks you just want to skip it, just messy!!!!
For the record, the voice of the non-instrumental tracks is from The Mars Volta’s vocalist.
According to wikipedia, Se dice Bisonte, No Búfalo, is one of the 4 works Omar made while he was in Germany, this album was conceived during the recording of Mars Volta’s Amputechture and the soundtrack of the Mexican film El Búfalo de la Noche based on Guillermo Arriaga’s story, which was the inspiration for the title of this work.
Se dice Bisonte, No Búfalo is an interesting experimental album to all the people who likes to go around psychedelic music charged with guitar riffs and progressive notes.

No se ha filtrado por completo, pero poco a poco han ido apareciendo canciones, y a la fecha ya hay 4 cortes del Icky Thump en la internetsss.
En esta oportunidad You Don’t Know What Love Is es la seleccionada, una canción muy fresca y Stripes con la característica “tonada” de guitarra contagiosa para tararear y la descarga de Meg, no ofrece algo nuevo que no estemos acostumbrados de ellos, pero cae muy bien.
Y si, tengo la 4ta… no, no es Slowly Turning Into You

La banda canadiense Stars se dio a conocer prácticamente por su álbum Set Yourself On Fire, desde ese momento no ha sacado nueva producción, sin embargo permitió que sus amigos tomaran el álbum para realizar varias “versiones, covers, remixes” como lo quieran llamar… el resultado es impecable, Do You Trust Your Friends cuenta con la colaboración de Apostle Of Hustle, Final Fantasy, The Dears, Junior Boys, Metric y muchos más con interpretaciones que en algunos casos superan en grande las versiones originales.
La única razón por la que DEBES escuchar el disco es por Your Ex Lover is Dead por Final Fantasy, sin embargo cada vez que escucho el disco tengo una preferida, he aquí varias que dan la talla porque los amigos han incorporado su estilo particular.

Canadian band Stars is recognized for Set Yourself On Fire album, since that moment they haven’t released a new work, nonetheless they invited their friends to make remixes, covers, versions of the songs of that album and finally Do You trust Your Friends was released.
This flawless work has collaborations by Apostle Of Hustle, Final Fantasy, The Dears, Junior Boys, Metric and more. Some of these new versions are better than the originals.
Everytime I listen this album I love a new song because the artists have transformed them with their own style, but the only reason you need, in order to start listening this album is “Your Ex Lover is Dead” by Final Fantasy.

Con respecto a la original mantiene la esencia de las trompetas y ese aire de Spaghetti Western o de soundtrack de Kill Bill o paso doble 
… pero agregándole su toque Stripes dum dum dum dum dum dum que realmente me agrada. Estoy con más expectativa de este nuevo trabajo.

The Sopranos 6×19: Ninna Ninna – Lullaby

Este blog se declara fan de Los Sopranos. Esta gran serie está por finalizar y en su antepenúltimo capítulo algo que quedó plasmado para muchos (no referente a la trama porque no quiero dar spoilers) fue la canción de los créditos finales.
Revisando en foros aquí y allá finalmente logré dar con la canción. Va por el título “Ninna Ninna – Lullaby” no se sabe quien es la intérprete de esa versión pero se encuentra en el álbum Italian Folk and Dances.
Lo que pude leer es que la original es Ninna Nanna Malandrineddi y es una canción calabrés del disco La Musica Della Mafia sobre una viuda que le canta a su hijo para vengar la muerte de su padre cuando sea grande. Para el cierre del capítulo fue perfecto aunque no se si se corresponda la letra, pero la música le da ese toque “El Padrino/Siciliano” que nos gusta en este tipo de historias.
Ahora ando en la onda del folk tradicional Italiano, próximamente les hablaré de Spaccanapoli. Para los que busquen la canción aquí la tienen:

I’m a freak fan of The Sopranos. This excellent TV series is going to finish. In its antepenultimate episode “Second Coming” something that stuck in my mind was the end credits song.
Checking message boards I found the song. The title is “Ninna Ninna – Lullaby” from the album Italian Folk and Dances but we don’t know the performer of this version.
The original one is Ninna Nanna Malandrineddi, this is a calabrian song from the album Musica Della Mafia about a widow singing to her son to avenge his father’s murder.
I don’t know if the lyrics fit with the episode but the music is amazing, it gave a “Godfather/Sicilian” touch that we like on these stories.
Enjoy the song… next time I’ll talk about Spaccanapoli.
