Grace Potter and The Nocturnals representan al género “roots-rock”. Como dice la Wikipedia: Roots-Rock es definido como una ramificación de la música “Americana” el cual comprende blues, country, rock entre otros…… y eso es lo que esta banda de Vermont engloba.

Sus conciertos llenos de energía son liderizados por la voz de Grace Potter, la cual recuerda (como todos incansablemente señalan) a las leyendas Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt y la gran Janis Joplin…. También me hace recordar a Sheryl Crow.

Revisando el álbum, veo que hay algo a considerar en la banda, y es el adoptar un estilo influenciado en los años 60’s y 70’s que los hace especiales y únicos, es por ello que se puede identificar como su carta de presentación.

No hay mucho más que decir sino que en la actualidad se encuentran trabajando en su próximo álbum.

For your Consideration

This band represents the “Roots-Rock” genre. As Wikipedia said: Roots Rock is a sometimes vaguely-defined genre of Americana music that draws on early rock and roll, blues, country music, country rock, and/or other related forms…….. and that’s what this band from Vermont is about.

They are rocking their concerts, leaded by Grace Potter whose voice could be related (as every review points) to Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin. In my opinion, Sheryl Crow easily enters in this list.

Checking out the album, there’s something about the band, a style from the 60’s or 70’s that makes special the essence of Grace Potter And The Nocturnals, that’s their trademark.

There’s no more to say, right now they are working on their next album.

Daft Punk lógicamente no son los primeros ni serán los últimos en tomar samples de canciones antiguas para formar su repertorio musical (dando crédito a la fuente y pagando sus respectivos derechos obviamente).
Es común que en los “libritos” del CD indiquen la canción y artista de donde tomaron el sample, pero uno generalmente no lee eso, pues he aquí un video de youtube donde comparan las canciones de Daft Punk con la del sample original.

Independientemente que su repertorio no sea 100% original hay que reconocer que son grandes en su estilo.

Daft Punk isn’t the first band and won’t be the last one to take samples of other songs in order to create their musical repertory (obviously paying the rights to do it).
It’s usual that in the booklet of the CD the artist indicate the source of the sample, but we don’t read that part… For that reason, here’s a youtube video where you can listen where Daft Punk got their samples.

Even though their music is not 100% original, this band is one of the greatest in their genre.

Llámalo ocio o demasiado tiempo libre pero ahora hay una onda por conseguir sincronizar una película con un álbum en particular.

Un bloguero, de la página 12 Computers, se ha dado a la tarea de encontrar casos en el que se puede decir se repite la coincidencia de Pink Floyd / Wizard of Oz, entre sus “hallazgos” tenemos:

- El Yellow House de Grizzly Bear con la película The City of Lost Children del francés Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
- También me entero del caso del OK Computer de Radiohead junto con 12 Monkeys… me gustaría probar esta.
- Y por último The Eraser de Thom Yorke junto con la obra maestra de Kubrick Dr. Strangelove.

El faje es tal que ha desarrollado pequeñas guías for dummies indicando en donde debe darle play a determinada canción.

Conclusión errr…. demasiado tiempo libre (*)

You can say it’s leisure or free time or whatever… but the fact is that now there’re people who try to sync a movie with an album in particular.

A blogger, from “12 Computers”, has tried to achieve several cases where you can see the coincidence of “Pink Floyd / Wizard Of Oz”. This guy has found:

- Grizzly Bear’s Yellow House with Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s The City of Lost Children.
- Radiohead’s OK Computer with 12 Monkeys (this one would be awesome)
- Thom Yorke’s The Eraser with Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove.

He has made a lot of work, including the elaboration of sync guides where you can see the correlation between the movie and a track of the album.

Conclusion err… a lot of free time.

Español: Arcade Fire recientemente hizo un cover de esta canción en sus últimos conciertos, al ser francesa me interesó saber su significado. (Muñeca de Cera, muñeca de trapo) Esta canción fue compuesta por Serge Gainsbourg (Je T'aime Moi Non Plus), interpretada por France Gall y ganadora del concurso Eurovisión en el año 1965. A partir de ese momento se volvió hit internacional, siendo versionada en distintos idiomas incluyendo japonés. Por cierto en la wikipedia hacen referencia que la version en español, es interpretada por Karina, pero no es la Karina que nosotros conocemos
