Cuando hace 2 años vi la portada y el nombre de este grupo, no me llamó la atención para nada: Camera Obscura con un estilo de los 60’s, susto … pensé que iba oír una versión sueca de Camilo Sexto… así que ni me inmuté en escucharlos.

Este año lanzaron su tercera producción llamada “Let’s Get Out Of This Country” y nuevamente mis temores reaparecieron, esa portada con el papel tapiz de casa victoriana y la inexpresión de la cantante iban a ganarse mi indiferencia total pero las reseñas decían que era uno de los mejores discos del año cargado de buen indie pop fresco y cursi.

Vi su video promocional de la canción Lloyd, I’m Ready to be Heartbroken… susto, inspirado en el popart americano de los 60’s y esta vez viendo en pantalla la inexpresión de la vocalista me iba a dar algo, más aun al saber que el director del video es el mismo del “Amo a Laura” (es verdad)

La primera escucha fue normal, consideré soso al disco y no le di otra oportunidad sino hasta no hace mucho, y no se si es por el estado de ánimo en que me encuentro pero ahora si me hizo click la banda, y este disco desde ya se ganó el título de álbum pangolo del año…. EVER!!!!

De las canciones que recomiendo para que el disco te enganche están:

Lloyd, I’m Ready to be Heartbroken: Ya considerado un himno de la banda.
Tears for Affairs: un popcito con algo de country que pareciera que lo único que falta es que canten el coro de “Fernando” de ABBA.
The False Contender: Un melódico vals, bien cursi… en el mejor sentido de la palabra que se pone mejor en cada escucha.
Let’s Get Out Of This Country y el If Looks Could Kill: Descaradamente pop indie empalagoso que bien esperas que tu vida siempre se encuentre durante los 3 minutos que dura la canción.

Veredicto: Nuevamente, mejor álbum pangolo EVER del año: cursi, melódico, romántico y soso (y todo en el buen sentido de la palabra), lo único que falta es la colina de flores y tu corriendo en cámara lenta para abrazar a tu novia/o, en un ambiente caracterizado por los trabajos de Andy Warhol y el estilo 60’s de Twiggy.

Two years ago I discovered this band and saw the cover of one of their Cd’s… OMG, that name and that 60’s style of the cover scare the hell out of me. I didn’t want to listen them so I moved on.

This year, they released their 3rd CD called Let’s Get Out Of This Country, once again all my fears came back to me… that cover and the inexpressive singer, I couldn’t hold myself but all the reviews said this album was one of the best works of the year with fresh and cheesy indie pop.

I watched their first video from the song Lloyd, I’m Ready to be Heartbroken… OMG. Inspired on 60’s american Pop-Art, this time I could watch the face of the singer, I wanted to cry, that was too much.

So, the first listen was…. OK. I considered the album as bore and I didn’t want to give it a second chance until this moment.
Maybe is the mood of this season or moment of my life but NOW I like the band and this album gained the title of Best Cheesy Album Of The Year…. EVER!

Lloyd, I’m Ready to be Heartbroken: The hymn of the band.
Tears for Affairs: An indie pop song with a little bit of country, I thought they were going to sing the chorus of ABBA’s Fernando.
The False Contender: A cheesy melodic vals… it gets better with every listen.
Let’s Get Out Of This Country and If Looks Could Kill: You expect your life would be always as happy as these songs.

Verdict: Once again, Best Cheesy Album Of The Year…. EVER!!!. With this album I see you running in a hill full of flowers in slow motion waiting to hold your significant other in an ambient characterized by Andy Warhol works and Twiggy 60’s style.
