Para aderezar la espera de un nuevo disco, PJ Harvey lanza al mercado una recopilación de las grabaciones de The Peel Sessions desde el año 1991 al 2004 coincidiendo con el 2do aniversario de la muerte de John Peel (creador de estas sesiones y DJ de la BBC Radio 1)

Polly Jean sabe lo que hace y como transmitirlo, sólo escuchar cortes como “Oh My Lover”, y el canto de perdón y redención de Eva hacia Adam “Snake” dejaría en pañales cualquier rabieta de Alanis en sus 90’s, posiblemente comparable con Tracy Bonham en “Mother Mother” (salvando toda diferencia), muy pocos artistas en realidad saben traspasar esos sentimientos como lo hace PJ.

PJ se pasea por casi toda su discografía con marcada preferencia en el “Dry”, sin embargo el disco no se centra totalmente en las canciones “suaves”, sino en donde lo virtuoso de PJ reluce: su guitarra, su voz y lo bien que rockea la banda (por no decir que rompe huevos), buen ejemplo el corte Sheela-Na-Gig

¿Qué faltó a esta colección? No hubiese caído para nada mal canciones conocidas o de la era “To Bring You My Love” y “Stories From The City…”, sin embargo para una persona como yo que no me se toda la discografía de PJ me dejaron ganas de conocer más y saber que tanto difieren estos arreglos con los originales de estudio.

Veredicto: Está buena la segunda mitad del álbum, centrado en las canciones “pangoleras” o lentas (no se por que no incluyeron “This Mess We’re In ” (no importa que no esté disponible Thom Yorke, esa canción no tiene precio)

Para la primera mitad del CD, te dejará haciendo esto todo el tiempo:

To spice up the waiting to her new album, PJ Harvey launched a Peel Sessions compilation from 1991 to 2004, coinciding with the 2nd death anniversary of John Peel (creator of these sessions and famous DJ from BBC Radio 1)

Polly Jean knows what she does and how to transmit it, just listening tracks like “Oh My Lover”, and the redemption/forgiveness song of Adam and Eve “Snake” let any angriness of Alanis in hers 90’s in diapers, possibly I could compare this with Tracy Bonham in “Mother Mother” (saving all the big differences), actually not all the artists know how to connect with their audience like this girl does.

PJ goes through almost all her discography with a big preference on “Dirty” album, nonetheless this CD is not centered on the soft songs but in the best field of PJ; that is, her virtuosity: voice, guitar and how the band kicks ass, good example is Sheela-Na-Gig

Peel Sessions is a good album, but I would prefer to hear more songs from “To Bring You My Love” and “Stories From the city…..”, although for a guy like me, who don’t know the complete discography, this album is an excellent teaser of PJ’s work, I don’t consider it “just for fans”. Now I want to hear the originals songs compared with these versions.

Verdict: The last half of the album is nice, centered on the slow songs.. (I don’t know why they don’t included This Mess We’re In (it doesn’t matter if there’s no Thom Yorke available, that song is priceless)
