Be Your Own Pet – Be Your Own Pet
Aug 19th
Be Your Own Pet is a band created in 2003 by a bunch of 19 years old kids from Nashville, USA.
I’ve been reading ’bout this band (I smell hype) and its live performances. I have to listen the record.

The first impression is wooooow, these kids are energetic. It seems like they eat a lot of sugar before start to record the songs. If I have to say their style…. definitely the answer would be the Yeah Yeah Yeahs! plus a little bit of Sonic Youth…. ( Karen O’s persona is present in the lead singer )
Every song of the record is about 2-3 minutes. I can’t distinguish one of another (which doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing) it’s like a long song cut every 2 min.
The only one I could separate from the rest was Adventure. (I think is their first single, I guess)
Whatever, if you like YYY’s, The Stooges, this is your band. Even though I would prefer to wait ’till the hype has landed.

Broken Social Scene – Lollapalooza 06.
Aug 16th
WE HATE YOUR HATE!!!!
I reaally like Broken Social Scene.
I’ve already downloaded their Lollapalooza performance (I was told that it was the BEST show of the event…. better than RHCP)… “Ibi Dreams Of Pavement” is one of the greatest songs live….. (close to Arcade Fire’s Laika hahaha)

There’s something about Feist that makes me mad.
Here’s the link of the torrent: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=107194
You have to sing up to that website in order to download the set… (flac format)

Vh1 Storytellers: Pearl Jam & Tori Amos
Aug 13th
Finally I watched Vh1 Storytellers – Pearl Jam. wooot!!! (thanx aMule). It was nice, but I was expecting more about the stories of the songs, this time Eddie went to a political side (one more time), the best part is the story of the song ALIVE.
Eddie wrote this song when he found that his father wasn’t his real father, Alive was conceived as a cursed song which Ed wanted to say that he’s alive and has to deal with this true over his shoulders, but when this song was known it became an anthem of joy and celebration of life for the audience… in that moment the fans lifted the curse …..Pearl Jam rocks!!!
In the same line, I found Vh1 Storytellers – Tori Amos (thanx aMule), this one is excellent.. she’s so delightful, even though we know she’s from out of this world.
One of the best stories is from the song “Father Lucifer”… it goes something like this:
“my father said to me: Tori, I can’t believe you wrote this song about me. And I said: I write everything about you, what are you surprised about?. And he said: No, but I’m really hurt about this one. And I said: Well which one is it? And he said: Well, the one when you called me Satan. And I said: No, I was taking drugs with a south american shaman and I really did visit the Devil and I had a journey. And he said: Oh, Praise Jesus!!!
She’s so nice… if you can’t download the video, here’s the part from Youtube.

Off Topic: Dalí …mania.
Aug 12th
I’m a big fan of Salvador Dalí. This time I just wanted to write about some curiosities of his creations.
In first place, there’s a 6 minutes animated film, made by Disney & Dalí called Destino. (This story begins in 1946, finally in 2003 was made reality), this video is like Disney’s Fantasia meets Dalí Paintings. Destino was nominated for an Academy Award (it didn’t win) but was showed few times in Festivals… it hasn’t been projected commercially, it’s a shame because I reaaaaaaally want to watch this. There’s a rumor for an upcoming DVD…. anyway, for the moment youtube has the clips.
In the other hand, some of you might know that in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Dalí, a series of books was published containing all the work of this painter (it includes autobiographies, poetry, yadayadayada). There are 8 volumes, right know this series is on its 5th volume (I think).. the news are that yesterday I found that volume 1 and 2 are for sale here in Venezuela. (yeeeah!!!! tecniciencia… yeap my darling Bs. 138.000 each volume). But I think it’s worthy.
To conclude this post.. I’ll show you this……..what can you see?… Gala watching at the sea or Lincoln.

Yann Tiersen – La boulange
Aug 7th
Hello people:
This time I want to write (one more time) about Yann Tiersen.
As you might know, Yann made a DVD named “La Traversee”, this movie is a “making of” of Les retrouvailles (last Tiersen’s CD).
I haven’t had the opportunity to see the movie, but God YouTube has a part of it.
This part is a performance of the song “La boulange”, there’s nothing extraordinary, the only thing is that it was recorded in an apartment, every member of the band is in a different room and…………. that’s all, just that, but is great. (With Yann Tiersen my opinion is a little bit slanted)
Check it out!!!! It’s priceless.

Almodovar’s Hable con Ella
Aug 6th
This is the last post about Almodovar’s films. “Hable con Ella” is my favorite. All about this movie is great, the music, the scenes, the story.
About the music, I have two instrumental songs, very beautiful. I don’t remember which parts of the movie correspond…. anyway, these songs are very flamenco-style, with their guitars “a la” Paco de Lucia.
But, the scene to remember is when Caetano Veloso is singing Cucurrucucú Paloma in front of all the actors and actresses from prior Almodovar’s films. Excellent!!!

PS: yeap, I’m done with Almodovar….haha.
